Miami-Dade County Parks and District 13 Commissioner Esteban Bovo, Jr., To Break Ground For New Amenities at Norman and Jean Reach Park
(MIAMI, November 26, 2013) - The Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department will join Miami-Dade County District 13 Commissioner Esteban Bovo, Jr. at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, to break ground for new amenities at Norman and Jean Reach Park, 7901 NW 176 Street, Miami.
The 20-acre park will receive a new perimeter walking path with shaded wayside seating, and new expanded patios around the recreation center and concession building. Among its amenities, this park has two-lighted basketball courts, four-lighted softball fields, two-tennis courts, a swimming pool, and a picnic shelter.
Miami-Dade County and The School Board of Miami-Dade County have, on an on-going basis, entered into agreements to provide for the joint use of their respectively owned public properties for recreational purposes. Palm Springs North Elementary School is adjacent to the park and the walking path will be built on both properties to provide a safe route for walking activities. This project was made possible with the assistance of Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, the School Board and the School Board Chair, Perla Taberas Hantman, District 4, where Palm Springs North Elementary School is located.
“Park projects, such as this one, make better use of our green spaces, providing residents and visitors with more opportunities to see nature and exercise,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “I want to thank the Parks Department for its continued efforts in helping us build a healthier and more livable community.”
“This exciting endeavor marks a significant milestone in our efforts to revitalize this park and this neighborhood. I am thrilled that we are able to provide neighbors and their children with recreational amenities that they most enjoy and need,” said Commissioner Bovo.
“These park improvements are designed for people of all ages to get outdoors and incorporate walking into their daily fitness activities,” said Miami-Dade County Parks Director Jack Kardys.”
The Miami-Dade County Parks Design and Build Team will work with Sagua Construction Inc. to construct the project. Funding of $154,000 for the project will be provided by the Quality Neighborhood Improvement Program (QNIP), Capital Outlay Reserve (COR), Impact Fees, and the Miami-Dade County District 13 Commission Office.
