Miami-Dade Parks & Miami-Dade District 7 Commissioner Xavier Suarez Announce Completed Renovations for Continental Park
(MIAMI, January 17, 2014) - The Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department and Miami-Dade County District 7 Commissioner Xavier Suarez announce a dedication ceremony celebrating completed renovations at Continental Park. Residents are invited to join them as they celebrate the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at 10000 SW 82 Avenue, in Miami.
The park improvements include nine (9) new street paver parking spaces; a new stamped concrete crosswalk; new drainage; a resurfaced recreation building entrance driveway; a repaved and restriped tennis area parking lot/entrance drive; nine (9) new White Geiger flowering trees and one (1) new Live Oak tree along the right-of-way; and a new crosswalk to the park at SW 102 Street. In addition, the park’s two existing batting cages each have a new concrete floor.
“Premiere global communities are graced with having excellent parks and recreation spaces available for their residents. I’d like to thank the Parks Department for the great progress they are making in continuing to revitalize our precious park spaces,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez.
“Continental Park has always been a very active park. These highly anticipated facility enhancements will make this park’s recreational services more accessible, making this great park even better,” said Commissioner Suarez.
“It is important that we keep our parks updated and safe so families can enjoy them,” said Miami-Dade County Parks Director Jack Kardys. “This project is another example of our commitment to maintaining and improving parks and open spaces for residents and visitors.”
The park development project is a product of the Miami-Dade County Parks Design and Build Team working in collaboration with Terra Civil Engineering (Design Consultant) and Acre Engineering (Construction Contractor). The cost for the improvements was $298,912. Funding was provided by the Building Better Communities Bond Program, Capital Outlay Reserve Fund, and Impact Fees.
Other amenities at this 18-acre park include the historical Dice House, a picnic shelter, a walking path, a Community Center, a Tennis Center, a basketball court, and three baseball fields.
