Miami-Dade County Parks and Target Present a Free Noches Tropicales Concert by Latin Music Legend Carlos Oliva and Los Sobrinos Del Juez

(MIAMI, January 7, 2015) - World renowned Cuban singer and percussionist Carlos Oliva, troubadour of “The Miami Sound” and his legendary band Los Sobrinos del Juez (The Judge’s Nephews) will make a return appearance at Tropical Park on Friday, February 13, 2015, as part of the free Noches Tropicales concert series presented by the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department and sponsored by Target. Get out your dancing shoes and make it a family night out. With such hits as “Rock the Boat/ Muevete”, “All Night Long/Toda la Noche” and “Celebration/Vivo Celebrando”, among others, the band’s contagious bi-lingual music fusions are guaranteed to tempt everyone’s feet to get up and groove to the beat. The concert starts at 8 p.m. and offers open field seating, under the stars. Concert-goers are advised to arrive early to find a good vantage point and bring lawn chairs and snacks to better enjoy the festivities. Admission and parking are free for this event.

This is the second of three free family-style concerts in the 2014-2015 Noches Tropicales concert series. The Noches Tropicales series was founded by Miami-Dade County District 10 Commissioner, Senator Javier D. Souto.

Originating from Sancti-Spiritus, Cuba, Oliva arrived in Miami in 1961, where he formed the nine-member band Los Sobrinos del Juez and pioneered “The Miami Sound”, a mixture of Cuban-salsa, afro, samba, jazz, and rock music rhythms. His band was the first to take the popular music sound outside of Miami and bring it to the grand stages of Las Vegas and other concert venues throughout Latin America and Europe.

A prolific international commercial composer, Oliva has produced and directed many other musical groups, including Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine, and has created more than 100 radio and television jingles. His musical credits include a coveted Emmy Award for the Univision television campaign song "Pégate al 23", as well as two BMI Latin TV Theme Awards and two La Feria de la Alegria Awards for theme songs that helped to popularize the Latin television shows “Cristina” and “Ocurrio Asi.”

Hit albums by Oliva and his band include Caribbean Dance (1995) with their popular “Macarena” song remix, which earned a “Gold Record” award for more than 250,000 copies sold. Other famous albums for the group include Yayabo (2000), Crossing Over (2004), I’m A Believer (2007) and Y Seguimos Guarachando (2011). Oliva and his band continue to create and record music and perform in concert venues around the world.  Recently, the Calle Ocho Chamber of Commerce honored Oliva with a star on the Calle Ocho “Walk of Fame” in Miami-Dade’s Little Havana area.
