South Florida's First Watersports Complex Sets to Open with the Miami Debut of the Monster Energy Wake Park Triple Crown Wakeboarding Championship at Amelia Earhart Park March 27-28

Miami Watersports Complex Results From Public-Private Partnership Between Miami-Dade County and Aktion Parks

(MIAMI, March 19, 2015) – The Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation & Open Spaces Department in partnership with Aktion Parks is proud to announce the grand opening of its highly anticipated Miami Watersports Complex (MWC), a public-private venture at Amelia Earhart Park. The partnership will introduce cable wakeboarding to the South Florida market and offer a host of other water sports while catering to families.

The MWC will debut at the 2015 Monster Energy WWA Wake Park Triple Crown (#MEWPTC), an international championship wakeboarding tournament featuring 100 athletes.  The Monster Energy Wake Park Triple Crown is free and open to the public from March 27-28 with gates opening at 9 a.m.

The MWC’s grand opening ceremony will feature a ribbon cutting hosted by Miami-Dade County District 13 Commissioner Esteban Bovo, Jr. and Miami-Dade Parks on March 28, at noon, at Amelia Earhart Park.

“The Miami Watersports Complex gives residents and visitors  another venue to enjoy recreational sports on a beautiful, natural lake setting in one of Miami-Dade County’s most popular parks,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez. “The Complex is an obvious win-win for greater Miami and its neighbors.”

Offering cable and boat wakeboarding, wake-surfing, waterskiing, kneeboarding, and paddle boarding, the MWC provides a new Miami-based hub for water-sports enthusiasts.

“The MWC is an exciting project that I’m proud to see come to fruition in the heart of Hialeah because, it’s broadening Miami’s ever evolving recreational and entertainment landscape,” said Commissioner Bovo.

The new complex is expected to continue drawing world-class competitions to Miami, including the Nautique WWA Wakeboard and Wakepark National Championships, Aug. 13-16.

"We are extremely proud to be providing this progressive, extreme and very affordable sport to the citizens of Miami-Dade County, as well as offering something new for all tourists to enjoy," said Paula and Michael Fay, co-founders of Miami Watersports Complex.

“Our Aktion Parks team is excited to partner with Miami-Dade Parks to open another of our world class boat and cable parks,” commented Correct Craft President and CEO Bill Yeargin. “MWC will be one of the world’s best cable and boat parks and will provide people from not only South Florida but also from around the world the opportunity to experience world-class watersports in a family-friendly atmosphere.”

The public should call 305-476-WAKE (9253) for reservations and pricing, or visit Aktion Parks.

“This is an exciting venture, because it adds depth to Miami’s rich menu of recreational choices,” said Miami-Dade Parks Director Jack Kardys.  “We’re proud to offer yet another fitness-made-fun activity that benefits the community in multiple ways.”
