Toll prices

The Rickenbacker Causeway toll plaza processes traffic through four lanes for entry to the islands of Key Biscayne and Virginia Key, as well as the beaches along the causeway.

All tolls on the Rickenbacker and Venetian Causeways are collected electronically. C-Pass transponders or cash are no longer accepted.

Weight limits

Wide Load
The maximum span to accommodate a wide load vehicle is 12 feet in width and a clearance of 15 feet in height. In the event that the size of the wide load vehicle exceeds the allowable measurements, please follow the instructions below:

  • Call the Rickenbacker Toll Plaza (305-854-2468) with the time and the date you will be going through the plaza.
  • Contact Miami-Dade Police Department with a minimum notice of 24 hours.
  • Stop at the Rickenbacker Toll Office to pay the appropriate toll.

Weight Limit
To obtain the weight limit of the Rickenbacker Causeway bridges, please contact the County’s Bridge Engineer at 305-592-3116. Please have the following information ready when calling:

  • Total weight of truck + load
  • Number of axles
  • Distance between the axles
  • Load on each axle

Resident Plan

The cost of the Rickenbacker Causeway Resident Plan is $24 per vehicle. The annual rate plan will not be pro-rated.

To obtain a Resident Plan, please provide the following:

  • A copy of current Driver’s License.
  • Current Vehicle Registration - registration must contain the name of the resident purchasing the plan.
  • Proof of Residency - customer must present one of the following: Current utility bill, property tax bill, lease agreement for more than six months with their name and Key Biscayne address on the above proof of residency.

The Rickenbacker Resident Plan is available for two-axle non-commercial vehicles only.

Commuter Plan

The Rickenbacker Causeway Commuter Plan provides unlimited passage through the Rickenbacker Toll Plaza.

Commuters are restricted to persons employed or attending school on the Rickenbacker Causeway or Key Biscayne. This annual plan is valid from October 1 to September 30, and can be purchased in person at the Service Center located at 4299 Rickenbacker Causeway.

The cost of the Rickenbacker Causeway Commuter Plan is $60 per vehicle. The annual plan rate will not be pro-rated.

To obtain a Rickenbacker Causeway Commuter Plan, please provide the following:

  • Proof of employment:
    • Copy of a paycheck or paystub, with employer’s address
    • W-2 form
  • Or proof of school enrollment:
    • School-issued student identification card
    • Student schedule issued by school
    • Letter on school letterhead verifying enrollment
  • Copy of the current state vehicle registration. Registration must contain the name of the person purchasing the plan.

The Rickenbacker Commuter Plan is available for two-axle non-commercial vehicles only.

If you no longer need the annual plan or are not eligible to renew the plan, please return your device to the Rickenbacker Toll Plaza Office to obtain a refund.

The Rickenbacker Causeway Toll Plaza has been converted to allow SunPass. Annual Plans will continue to be offered and administered; however, everyone will be required to have a SunPass transponder.

Bear Cut Bridge

The Bear Cut Bridge – a portion of the Rickenbacker Causeway that links Key Biscayne and Miami – underwent repairs required to rehabilitate the bridge.
