James DiBernardo Biography
James DiBernardo has been a law enforcement officer for 35 years with the Miami-Dade Police Department, with a primary career focus that relates to youth or juvenile crime prevention. He acquired a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Florida International University. He advanced to the rank of Police Major of the Community Affairs Bureau (four years) while simultaneously assisting the crime prevention mission in the community on both a professional and voluntary level.
In addition to his extensive juvenile crime prevention experience, below is a summary of qualifications that highlight Major DiBernardo's achievements in this area.
- Specialized in writing and/or obtaining federal, state, local, and foundation money for Miami-Dade County and the Miami-Dade Police Department summing up to over 12 million dollars.
- Developed and implemented numerous national programs aimed at youth education, early anti-drug and anti-gang education, and promoting good citizenship.
- Has written, lobbied, and secured numerous appropriations funding requests from the State of Florida Legislature.
- Serves as a member of various boards and committees, both local and statewide, to address current issues within the community. Appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to the Children's Trust.
