| NATURE OF WORK
This is field work in the collection of data essential to the evaluation of traffic problems in the county. A Traffic Analyst 1 conducts field investigations and studies relative to urban, suburban and rural traffic problems through methods of manual and automatic traffic counts, parking surveys, origin and destination and other studies of a routine nature. The employee is responsible for the preparation of preliminary reports, drawings, charts and related supplementary material obtained from the physical investigation of the traffic problems encountered. Work is performed according to clearly defined procedures and methods and involves the exercise of some technical judgment after experience in the work has been gained. Work is closely reviewed by a superior for accuracy and completeness.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Performs a variety of routine traffic investigations, studies and surveys relative to parking, traffic flow, volume counts, radar speed checks and origin and destination surveys. Assists superiors with more difficult traffic problems, obtains location condition sketches, accident occurrence tabulations and related field sketches. Under supervision, performs necessary calculations and computations for sufficiency rating and other projects and studies; verifies work and prepares tentative reports and recommendations for review by superiors. Receives complaints from the general public and makes preliminary field investigations to determine nature of problem; makes recommendations to proper official and refers more difficult problems to superior. Performs generalized clerical assignments in office; keeps records, codes material, reviews correspondence and composes routine letters and memoranda. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of the basic rules and regulations effective in the county governing traffic regulations and controls. Knowledge of the geography of the county, its incorporated and unincorporated areas and road network. Ability to make simple sketches and diagrams and to make arithmetical computations with speed and accuracy. Ability to meet and deal tactfully with property owners and the general public. Ability to prepare clear and concise written reports based on findings of studies.
