| Minimum Qualifications | |
| High school diploma or GED. Five years of experience in the construction or maintenance trades to include two years of supervisory experience are required. Must possess a Driver license. Applicants qualifying for employment with the Miami-Dade Seaport Department will be subject to extensive security screening, including but not limited to fingerprint checks, employment verification, and other such procedures as may be mandated by federal, state, or local requirements. The security clearance required by federal law is a continuing condition of employment. | |

| NATURE OF WORK
This is technical and supervisory work in the maintenance of electrical, air conditioning and water systems at the county seaport. An employee in this class is responsible for supervising the installation, maintenance and repair of various utility systems at the seaport and for the technical review of designs for new equipment. Duties include development and implementation of maintenance schedules, requisitioning supplies and materials, technical examination of various utility system designs and maintenance characteristics, and assuring compliance with established industrial standards. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment regarding system requirements and technical phases of system development. Supervision is exercised through subordinate supervisors over a staff of technicians and semi-skilled laborers engaged in various kinds of work. Supervision is received from a technical and administrative superior who holds the incumbent responsible for effective maintenance activities in the area of assignment.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Plans, assigns and reviews the work of a staff of technical, mechanical and semi-skilled employees, through subordinate supervisors, engaged in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical, air conditioning and water systems at the county seaport. Implements process controls and maintenance schedules for all seaport electrical, air conditioning and water systems. Supervises repairs of railroad bridge, highway bridges, passenger gantries, navigational aids and various buildings. Requisitions supplies, materials and equipment; reviews costs and recommends improvements to enhance maintenance and repair efficiency. Serves as a technical consultant for the design, installation, maintenance and repair of various utility systems. Performs safety tests on various utility systems to assure compliance with all seaport and industrial safety standards. Makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline and promotion of subordinates; authorizes leave and overtime; reviews performance reports prepared by subordinates and rates employee performance. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods and tools of a variety of skilled trades. Thorough knowledge of electrical, plumbing and air conditioning design, repair and maintenance. Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to a variety of trades activities. Considerable knowledge of supervisory principles and practices. Considerable knowledge of seaport operations and geographical layout. Ability to supervise subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams and schematics. Ability to coordinate work at various geographically dispersed locations. Ability to review and revise maintenance schedules for a wide variety of equipment. Ability to review complex design plans for various utility systems and make effective recommendations. Skill in the diagnosis of malfunctions in a variety of utility systems.
