Data Control Supervisor 1
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED. Completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university to include 15 semester credits in Computer Science. One year of experience in the operation of data processing peripheral equipment within a computer production support enviornment is required. Additional two years of experience relative to the classification may substitute for required education on a year-for-year basis.
Job Specifications
NATURE OF WORK

This is supervisory data processing work on an assigned shift in a large centralized data processing operation.

Employees in this class are responsible for planning, assigning and reviewing the work of a staff of subordinates engaged in the receipt, recording and preparation of documents for computer application, and verification of completed data prior to distribution. Emphasis of the work is on coordinating the work of a shift engaged in the receipt and distribution of production reports, controlling shipping and receiving, account balancing, and assuring timely work flow. Duties include contacts with departments using centralized data processing services and training of subordinate technical and clerical employees performing various tasks in the receipt and distribution of data processing materials. Supervision is received from a technical and administrative superior who evaluates work for satisfactory performance of assigned duties.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Plans, assigns and reviews the work of subordinate technical and clerical employees engaged in the receipt, recording and preparation of documents for computer application and verification of completed data prior to distribution.

Controls shipping and receiving activities and assures work flow is satisfactory to meet production and distribution schedules.

Evaluates, recommends and installs new and revised work flow procedures.

Coordinates work flow between shifts and recommends schedule changes.

Prepares and submits unit activity reports.

Assures all CJS reports are copied, decollated and/or burst in a timely manner; reviews all reports from computer room to assure all CJS reports have been received.

Contacts operations supervisors to eliminate scheduling bottlenecks and overcome production interruptions.

Contacts departmental officials regarding work to be processed, problems to be resolved in source documents and completion dates.

Makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline and promotion of subordinates; authorized leave and overtime;

evaluates and rates employee performance.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Considerable knowledge of computer scheduling requirements in a large centralized data processing operation.

Considerable knowledge of Job Control Language and its application.

Knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of data processing peripheral equipment.

Knowledge of various job applications processed by centralized data processing equipment.

Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate production procedures.

Ability to supervise subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.

Ability to analyze operational methods and make recommendations to improve efficiency.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, superiors and officials of other County departments and agencies.

Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
