Video Communications Producer
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Television Production or related field. One year of experience in script writing and production is required.

NATURE OF WORK

This is responsible journalistic and video production work in the Miami-Dade County Communications Department.

Employees in this classification are responsible for developing and producing video programs for Miami-Dade County's cable channel. Work includes creating, developing, script-writing, producing, promoting and evaluating video programs. Supervision may be exercised over a video production crew by assignment and review of completed work. Assignments are received in general form through conferences with the department head or other administrative officials. Work is conducted with considerable independence and reviewed continuously for effectiveness through appraisal of public response.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Confers with administrative officials in creating, developing, researching and planning video programs.

Writes scripts for video programs; assembles and condenses information to be used in the scripts, ensures scripts are completed on time.

Produces new and existing video programs; schedules and directs the video production crew in filming on the premises or on location, ensures production deadlines are met.

Develops the set design concept and supervises the setting-up; serves as on-camera interviewer.

Directs and supervises the video production crew in the editing and graphics involved in post-production, ensures post-production deadlines are met.

Evaluates quality and effectiveness of completed video program through feedback with administrative officials and/or audience research.

Writes and edits publicity materials to promote video programs.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Thorough knowledge of journalistic principles and practices, the techniques of planning, developing, producing and evaluating video programs.

Thorough knowledge of English usage and the requirements of cable television.

Thorough knowledge of script-writing and publicity techniques.

Thorough knowledge of scheduling and directing a video production crew.

Ability to write and assemble interesting and informative scripts and related publicity materials.

Ability to plan and organize video programs from initial concept stage to finished product.

Ability to perform on-camera interviews.

Ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with the public, department directors, industrial representatives and the public media.
