Elections Supervisor 1
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED. One year of experience in the elections is required.

NATURE OF WORK

This is advanced clerical and supervisory work in the administration of municipal, county, state and federal elections.

Employees in this class are responsible for planning, assigning and reviewing the work of subordinates engaged in complex clerical work related to a major facet of election administration. Responsibilities may include supervising the processing of voter registration records, coordinating absentee ballot activities, establishing polling places, or coordinating the recuitment and training of pollworkers. Incumbents exercise some independent judgment in the application of specialized elections laws and procedures to the area of assignment. Supervision is exercised over a staff of clerical employees which may vary greatly in size depending upon election activities. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work through observations and audits of work performed and assists with difficult or unusual problems.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of subordinate employees engaged in the filing, coding, reinstatement, transfers, and changes in voter registration records; supervises research of voter registration records and updating voter's history files.

Determines appropriate voter precinct assignment and verifies voter registration data through computer terminals and microfiche viewers.

Processes absentee ballot requests; examines absentee ballots returned for validity of signature and completion of Voter's Certificate as required by state law; coordinates certification of petitions and absentee ballots; supervises and trains employees.

Solicits, secures, and establishes polling places, and maintains files for current polling places; coordinates telephone installations and performs periodic field evaluations; coordinates availability of equipment and supplies for polling places prior to elections.

Recruits, staffs, and assigns pollworkers to training classes and precincts; assures that pollworkers' files and data processing entries are correct; produces a variety of reports and lists for use by the department, municipalities and the public.

Makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline and promotion of subordinats; authorizes leave and overtime; evaluates and rates employee performance.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

Knowledge of election laws, rules, regulations and procedures.

Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.

Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and operations concerning the preparation and conduct of elections.

Knowledge of the geography of the Dade County area.

Knowledge of public relations practices and techniques.

Ability to supervise subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.

Abilty to determine precinct locations based upon correct addresses.

Ability to train subordinates in a variety of election procedures and processes.

Ability to establish effective working relationships with subordinates, superiors, and the public.

Ability to operate modern office equipment.
