RSVP Coordinator
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Social Work, Sociology, Gerontology, Adult Education, Human Resources Administration or a related field. One year of experience working with the elderly in the public sector is required.
Job Specifications
NATURE OF WORK

This is administrative and supervisory work in planning and coordinating activities for the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program.

An employee in this class is responsible for supervising and participating in the selection of volunteer stations and placement of senior volunteers. Emphasis of the work is on implementing federal RSVP policy, developing goals and objectives, and implementing an ongoing public relations program. Responsibilities include preparation of a policies and procedures manual, conduct of training workshops, analysis of funding needs and preparation of grant applications. Supervision is exercised over sub-professional and clerical support personnel who assist with various phases of the program. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews and evaluates work for attainment of desired objectives through personal conferences and written reports.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Plans, develops and implements guidelines for selection of volunteer stations and placement of senior volunteers; develops and conducts training for RSVP participants, stations and employees; formulates goals and objectives for RSVP.

Supervises and participates the provision of technical assistance to volunteer stations; assists in the collection of data for narrative and statistical reports; prepares and maintains RSVP policies and procedures manual.

Develops and implements an ongoing public relations program; encourages community groups to support volunteer efforts; promotes RSVP through media presentations; attends various conferences, seminars and workshops.

Analyzes funding needs and prepares grant applications; conducts audits of reimbursement requests and transportation reports; makes recommendations for reimbursement of volunteer stations.

Arranges for regular and formal recognition of senior volunteers and volunteer stations; solicits contributions for recognition programs; evaluates and recommends the selection of honorary volunteers and stations.

Develops and maintains effective working relationships with representatives from various community organizations and agencies.

Makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline and promotion of subordinates; authorizes leave and overtime; evaluates and rates employee performance.

Performs related work as required.

Considerable knowledge of Federal, state and local regulations which govern seniors volunteer programs.

Considerable knowledge of funding sources available to seniors volunteer programs.

Considerable knowledge of community organizations and agencies utilizing senior volunteers.

Considerable knowledge of public relations methods and techniques.

Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.

Ability to supervise subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.

Ability to monitor volunteer stations for compliance with established Federal, state and local regulations.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers and representatives from public and private organizations.

Ability to analyze financial needs and secure appropriate funding.

Ability to prepare detailed and accurate reports.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
