Day Treatment Program Administrator
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Social Work or a Doctorate in Psychology. Four years of professional clinical experience in a social services, mental health or family and children's services program to include two years of administrative experience in budget preparation, facility management, or supervision are required.

NATURE OF WORK

This is advanced professional and administrative work in the management of a Metro-Dade County mental health program.

Employees in this class are responsible for administration and professional supervision of a day treatment center for severely emotionally disturbed children, adolescents and young adults. Responsibilities include supervising and managing the delivery of psychotherapeutic, psycho-educational and social services to severely emotionally disturbed adolescents and their families, implementing and administering day treatment center policies, procedures and client treatment, compiling and preparing various program reports, preparing and administering the program budget, and directly providing counseling and crisis intervention services. Incumbents exercise considerable independent judgment in the application of the principles of management and clinical psychology to the administration of a day treatment center and the provision of clinical treatment. Supervision is exercised over professional psychologists, social workers and psychoeducational employees assigned to child, adolescent and adult clients. General direction is received from an administrative superior who reviews work for the professional management of day treatment center activities and achievement of program goals and objectives.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Directs and supervises the work of psychologists, social workers and psychoeducational employees providing clinical services in a day treatment center for severely emotionally disturbed children, adolescents and young adults.

Applies the principles of clinical psychology and clinical social work and performs individual, group and family therapy.

Coordinates program activities with public school system officials in accordance with established agreements; consults with and maintains responsible contacts with local mental health programs and professionals; coordinates service activities with other departmental and community resources.

Completes statistical and qualitative program reports; assures compliance with Medicaid documentation requirements; prepares monthly, quarterly and annual program reports.

Supervises and participates in intake and case selection; participates in the training of interns.

Monitors and evaluates day treatment program performance relative to established objectives; provides assistance in program planning and programming.

Makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline and promotion of subordinates; authorizes leave and overtime; evaluates and rates employee performance.

Performs related work as required.

Thorough knowledge of the principles of psychology and social work utilized in the field of clinical psychology.

Thorough knowledge of psychological treatment methods and techniques used in individual, group and family therapy.

Thorough knowledge of the management, organization and operation of a day treatment center for severely emotionally disturbed children, adolescents and young adults.

Considerable knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.

Considerable knowledge of the records, forms and reports required in a mental health program.

Considerable knowledge of local mental health programs.

Ability to direct and manage daily activities of a day treatment program for severely emotionally disturbed children, adolescents and young adults.

Ability to supervise subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.

Ability to conduct individual, group and family therapy in accordance with the principles of clinical psychology.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical consultants, professional associates, subordinates, superiors and officials of community groups.

Ability to lead case conferences and staff seminars.

Ability to establish program performance criteria and develop outcome measures.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.

Ability to coordinate and facilitate clinical, educational, recreational and vocational services.
