| NATURE OF WORK
This is advanced clerical work in health education in a child development services program. An employee in this class is responsible for assisting a professional superior in the operation of a health education program. Responsibilities include providing assistance in arranging health screenings for eligible children in a child care program, assisting in necessary preparations for in-service and first aid training, observing children in subcontracted facilities to identify possible health problems, and completing samplings of the health records of children in subcontracted facilities on a regular basis. Supervision is received from a professional superior who reviews work for effective assistance in health education activities.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Assists in arranging health screenings for a large group of eligible children in a child care program including vision, speech and hearing, dental, and developmental. Assist with preparation for in-service and first aid training. Observes children in subcontracted child care facilities for the purpose of identifying possible health problems and special needs; compiles observation reports and submits to supervisor. Completes a sampling of children's health records on assigned subcontracted facilities on a periodic basis. Assists with preparation for an annual health and safety fair. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
Knowledge of health screening assessment procedures. Knowledge of the content and meaning of information on health records. Knowledge of reports and forms used in the area of assignment. Knowledge of abnormal physiological conditions affecting pre-school children. Some knowledge of adult educational theory, principles and practices. Ability to assist a professional superior in the operation of a health education program. Ability to observe pre-school children and detect abnormal physiological conditions. Ability to keep records and prepare reports. Ability to assist in preparation of classroom training.
