| NATURE OF WORK
This is advanced clerical and social work advocating for victims within Miami -Dade County.
An employee in this class is responsible for coordinating various activities in a program of advocacy and care for victims of violent crimes and domestic violence. Responsibilities include assisting in all phases of preparation for Advisory Board Committee meetings, coordinating domestic violence support group meetings and special events, making public presentations, and recruiting and scheduling volunteers. Supervision is received from a professional superior who reviews work for effective assistance in the management of the program.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Coordinates the logistics of community-based domestic violence support groups including securing volunteers, meeting rooms, arranging schedules, and assisting with related press releases and notices. Assists in providing general presentations about the program and services to community groups, schools, churches, and other organizations. Assists in coordinating special events including fund raisers, open houses, and workshops; assists in planning, purchasing supplies, setting up decorations, and arranging for printing services. Assists staff of the Advisory Board and various committees; prepares and distributes minutes of meetings, makes follow-up telephone calls, purchases supplies, sets up refreshments, researches information, prepares mailing lists, types and distributes information, and assists with newsletter. Coordinates recruitment and scheduling of volunteers; interviews and screens potential volunteers, arranges for their placement, and analyzes and reports on volunteer effectiveness. Maintains records for donations including preparing correspondence to recognize donor's gifts, processing cash donations, preparing donation reports, and reconciling cash donations with accounting reports. Performs related work as required.

Considerable knowledge of the organization and operation of the Advocate for Victims Program. Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of modern office administration. Knowledge of the goals and objectives of the Advocate for Victims Program. Knowledge of public relations principles and techniques. Knowledge of records, reports, and forms used in the area of assignment. Knowledge of the local social services network and community organizations. Ability to coordinate domestic violence support group meetings and special events. Ability to provide effective assistance in the management of an Advocate for Victims Program. Ability to keep records and prepare reports. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
