This is skilled technical work in providing hair care and grooming services to the Adult Living Facility (ALF) residents within the Department of Human Services.

Employees in this class perform a variety of services to the residents at the Adult Living Facility (ALF). The residents can have their hair washed, cut and styled. In performing this service, no chemicals are to be used for coloring, perming, and/or straightening of hair. Styling is accomplished by using cold rollers or an electric blow dryer. Supervision is received by the Recreation Leader or other administrative superior who reviews work for satisfactory completion of assignments.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Provides hair care and grooming of hair to elderly patients.

Organizes, cleans and sanitizes all towels and equipment used.

Discusses with supervisor ideas, information, concepts, and approaches concerning the residents.

Provides haircuts to residents to improve their hygiene and self-esteem.

Informs supervisors of residents experiencing any unusual conditions, adverse reaction to any product, unattended health and/or social service problems.

Participates in training, meetings and resident staffing.

Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of hair care and grooming principles and practices

Knowledge of departmental procedures for the provision of hair grooming services.

Knowledge of grooming practices for the elderly.

Ability to use good judgment in providing grooming services.

Ability to work patiently with residents in a caring, gentle manner.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to serve the elderly and provide care.
