| NATURE OF WORK
This is supervisory work in the coordination of transportation activities for the Community Action Agency. An employee in this class is responsible for supervising a staff of employees engaged in providing bus and van transportation to health service facilities, job sites, meetings and conferences, and on field trips. Emphasis of the work is on scheduling and coordinating trip assignments, monitoring maintenance of buses and vans, evaluating requests for transportation services and reviewing centralized Fleet Management invoices. Duties include monitoring vehicular safety equipment and ensuring that subordinate vehicle operators are properly licensed. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work for efficient provision of departmental transportation services.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Prepares transportation schedules and assigns drivers to trips; monitors bus and van maintenance and ensures vehicles are in proper operating condition. Evaluates requests from community and private organizations and schools for transportation; confirms or denies requests and prepares transportation bills for services, as required. Prepares monthly transportation report; reviews centralized Fleet Management invoices for accuracy. Monitors safety equipment on vans and buses to ensure all equipment is in proper working order; ensures that drivers and vehicles are properly licensed and registered. Serves as driver during special events and activities, or as otherwise required. Assists with building operations by helping visitors, accepting deliveries, monitoring parking, assisting in carrying-out fire drills, and performing related duties. Supervises subordinate employees engaged in providing a variety of bus and van transportation services. Performs related work as required.

Considerable knowledge of CAA transportation services, functions and requirements. Considerable knowledge of safe-driving practices. Considerable knowledge of bus and van maintenance requirements and required safety equipment. Considerable knowledge of dispatching and transportation scheduling for a small fleet of buses and vans. Ability to supervise subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale. Ability to prepare accurate and effective transportation schedules for a small fleet of buses and vans. Ability to monitor vehicle maintenance and safety equipment to assure safe operation of buses and vans. Ability to prepare accurate and complete reports. Ability to operate buses and vans with skill and care.
