Greater Miami Service Corps Education & Training Coordinator
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree. Three years of experience providing education, counseling or training services for at risk youth and/or out of school young adults to include one year in a managerial capacity are required.

NATURE OF WORK

This is advanced training and development work in the Greater Miami Service Corps for the Community Action Agency.

An employee in this class is responsible for the design, development and implementation of education, counseling and corpsmember developmental activities for the Greater Miami Service Corps. Responsibilities include managing contracts for the provision of educational services, developing individual educational programs for corpsmembers, designing orientation plans, obtaining information on local educational and training opportunities, recruiting participants, reviewing corpsmember progress, and integrating educational development and work projects. The incumbent exercises independent judgment in the application of advanced educational theory and practice to the design of individual corpsmember developmental activities. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who holds the incumbent responsible for effective education and training programs for Service Corps participants.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Manages contractual agreements for the provision of educational services for the Greater Miami Service Corps.

Develops and implements individual educational programs for participants with diverse educational levels and goals.

Designs and implements programs for screening and preparation of participants.

Maintains information on education and support service opportunities; obtains information on local educational and training opportunities.

Provides on-going outreach and recruitment efforts.

Assesses individual corpsmember developmental requirements; assists in goal-setting; reviews progress of corpsmembers and provides individual and group counseling.

Evaluates GMSC work projects for educational opportunities; assists in developing training and education as elements of work projects.

Performs related work as required.

Thorough knowledge of general adult educational theories, principles and practices.

Thorough knowledge of educational and training goals and objectives of the Greater Miami Service Corps.

Thorough knowledge of a broad range of educational and instructional approaches to individual employability development.

Considerable knowledge of the educational and training needs of potential Service Corps participants.

Considerable knowledge of local educational and youth development organizations, programs and institutions.

Ability to effectively apply educational theory to the educational and training needs of Service Corps participants.

Ability to motivate and interest youth in achievement of educational and personal goals.

Ability to plan, organize and administer a variety of educational and training programs.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, to groups and individuals.

Ability to effectively manage contracts for educational services.

Ability to counsel youthful participants on training and career goals.
