| NATURE OF WORK
This is skilled technical work in the development and maintenance of audio-visual programs in the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department.
Employees in the class are responsible for the production of a variety of audio-visual programs that depict departmental activities, events and incidents. Emphasis of the work is on the operation and maintenance of audio-visual equipment, cameras and related media equipment to produce tapes, slides, films, photographs, media releases, training materials, public service announcements, documentary files and other related projects in support of training, education and information programs. Related responsibilities include the maintenance and repair of equipment, assisting in scripting and narration of audio-visual programs and providing consultant services to departmental and other representatives as required. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work for technical quality of completed assignments.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Operates professional broadcast ENG and EFP video tape cameras, slides and film projectors, audio and video recorders, editing systems, satellite receivers and developing equipment; operates reflex, movie and 35mm cameras; uses darkroom procedures to produce black and white and E-6 prints; initiates use of satellite downlink system and distribution network.
Produces a variety of audio-visual and publicity materials including videos, slides, still photography, tapes, films, media releases, public service announcements, documentary files and related projects from conceptual phase through completed production; produces and presents multi-image slide participates; participates in the scripting and narration of audio-visual productions as required.
Responds to fire and rescue incidents, training sessions and informational presentations to record occurrences as required.
Serves as audio-visual consultant to departmental representatives or other designated agencies regarding equipment and programming needs.
Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; makes minor repairs to equipment and monitors major repair process.
Performs related work as required.

Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of modern video tape production technology.
Considerable knowledge of camera and audio-visual equipment.
Knowledge of electronic theory used in maintaining audio-visual and related equipment.
Knowledge of the methods used in dark room procedures, still and motion picture production.
Knowledge of satellite downlink receiver and distribution network.
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of stage and studio lighting systems.
Ability to operate a variety of audio-visual and camera equipment to produce quality work.
Ability to assemble, write and edit production script, video materials and programs.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to maintain accurate filing system photographs, negatives and video tapes.
Skill in the use of audio-visual and photographic equipment.
