| NATURE OF WORK
This is advanced professional and technical work in video program production for the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department.
An employee in this class is responsible for production and coordination of video training programs, and production of a variety of audio-visual programs depicting department activities, events and incidents. Responsibilities include planning, designing and editing program materials, producing and maintaining information for documentary files, and other projects supporting department training, education and public information programs. The incumbent exercises independent judgement and professional knowledge in the application of advanced video techniques to the development of departmental training programs. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work through observations and personal conferences for satisfactory attainment of desired goals and objectives.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Plans and coordinates work with department employees engaged in writing and editing scripts; supervises or performs various studio or field set-up activities including arranging lighting, installing props, locating microphones and positioning cameras; videotapes and edits training programs for use by department employees and employees of other fire protection and emergency response agencies.
Operates commercial broadcast grade ENG and EFP video tape camera systems and related equipment, slide and film projection systems, advanced audio and video recorders, advanced editing systems, satellite distribution networks and photographic developing equipment; operates reflex, movie and 35mm cameras; uses darkroom facilities to produce black and white prints and color slides; supervises and coordinates the use of satellite programming and distribution network.
Plans, designs and develops video programs to meet training objectives and provide information to department employees in areas including recruitment, HAZ-MAT, fire alarm, air rescue, and training videos on emergency response apparatus.
Coordinates the production of a variety of audio-visual and publicity materials including videos, slides, still photography, tapes, films, media releases, public service announcements, documentary files and related projects from concept through completed production; produces and presents multi-image slide preservations; participates in scripting and narrating audio-visual productions as required.
Responds to fire and rescue incidents, providing video tape documentation for department and media use.
Serves as audio-visual consultant for department and other agencies regarding equipment selection and programming needs.
Maintains inventory of capital equipment and supplies; makes minor repairs to equipment and monitors major repair process; prepares budget estimates and monitors requisitions for equipment, materials and supplies.
Performs related work as required.
