Currently employed by the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department as a Firefighter with permanent status is required.

NATURE OF WORK

This is advanced and responsible administrative work in a division of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department.

Employees in this class are responsible for assisting in managing, planning, organizing and implementing various administrative activities of a fire department division. Emphasis of the work is on planning division objectives and budget requirements, compiling a variety of administrative and technical reports, monitoring the activities of district stations and responding to a variety of personnel matters. Assignments are broad in nature with considerable opportunity for the exercise of independent judgment, application of management principles, and analysis of administrative and personnel problems. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who evaluates work for adherence to departmental policies and attainment of desired objectives conferences and review of reports of operation.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Assists in planning and preparing divisional budget and in planning divisional objectives; analyzes divisional problems and makes recommendations for resolution.

Maintains schedules of division's calendar of events and activities of a daily basis including unplanned training or inspections; verifies that activities are conducted as scheduled or planned.

Compiles a variety of technical reports regarding the disposition of fire personnel, equipment and materials within an assigned district; inspects district stations on a regular or monthly basis, submits detailed reports of findings including requests for repairs; monitors the progress of repairs for completion and compliance with departmental standards.

Monitors supply requests from district stations, reviews inventory stock levels to assure adequate supplies, materials and equipment; conducts annual inventory of capital equipment and maintains records of actual location and condition; submits new and revised inventory standards for apparatus, vehicles, supplies, stations and personnel as required.

Provides assistance in resolving personnel matters, analyzes departmental policies pertaining to issues, conducts research and applies analytical methodologies in presenting factual recommendations and resolving problems; maintains current roster of employee's demographic information, bid assignments and qualifications for certification.

Attends meetings, conferences and workshops as departmental representative with various agencies to explain departmental operations and policies as needed.

Assists medical advisory physician as needed; responds to alarms as required.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Considerable knowledge of the principles of general management and their application to departmental administration.

Considerable knowledge of state and county laws and regulations pertaining to departmental operations.

Considerable knowledge of research techniques and the sources of current information in the area of assignment.

Considerable knowledge of inventory control and county procurement and requisitioning procedures.

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of modern office administration.

Knowledge of applicable contracts, grievance procedures and personnel procedures of the department and the county.

Knowledge of current departmental EMS policies and procedures.

Ability to prepare clear and concise reports of divisional operations, activities and inventory procedures.

Ability to exercise judgment in interpreting departmental or county regulations, policies and procedures.

Ability to discern and extract pertinent facts from verbal and written guidelines, policies and procedures, and apply them to a variety of problems.

Ability to evaluate administrative operations to determine if divisional goals and objectives have been met.

Ability to express ideas and information clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, departmental officials, officials of other agencies and the general public.
