| NATURE OF WORK
This is skilled work in the maintenance, inventory and safeguarding of weaponry for the Public Safety Department. Employees in this class are responsible for all issued revolvers, shotguns, rifles and automatic weapons. Work involves all necessary repairs, replacement of parts, modifications, refinishing and routine maintenance of all weaponry. Instructions relating to work assignments may be oral or in writing. Supervision is received from a superior who reviews work by the satisfactory performance and working condition of all weaponry maintained or repaired.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Maintains all issued revolvers, shotguns, rifles, automatic weapons, tear gas guns, gas grenades and other types of equipment used for civil disorder. Performs all necessary repairs, replacement of parts, modifications, refinishing and routine maintenance on a variety of weaponry. Periodically inspects and repairs all shotguns, rifles and specialized weapons in the various district armories. Attends firearms training, special exercises and annual weapon qualifications for the purpose of maintenance and repair of weapons. Provides a mobile maintenance and repair service for weapons assigned to each district. Responds for duty in the event a departmental control plan is instituted, involves being present at command post during civil disturbances or riots for the purpose of on the scene maintenance and repair of weaponry. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge in the maintenance, cleaning, inventory and safeguarding of a wide variety of weaponry. Considerable knowledge in the repair, inspection and service of small arms, rifles, shotguns and automatic weaponry. Knowledge of inventory records keeping and equipment needed to operate this unit on an efficient and economical basis. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with departmental and supervisory personnel. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies. Skill in the use and testing of a variety of weaponry.
