C & R Video Specialist
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism or a related field. One year of experience in video production or commercial broadcast television programming production is required. Additional experience may substitute for required education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years. Applicants will be subject to an extensive screening process to include background investigation, fingerprint check and polygraph examination.
Job Specifications
NATURE OF WORK

This is skilled technical audio-visual and public information work for the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

An employee in this class is responsible for producing video programs and performing a variety of public information tasks. Responsibilities include planning public information projects, editing and supervising the broadcast of the departmental news magazine program, coordinating audio-visual presentations for special events, taking photographs, and advising departmental officials concerning publicity projects and preparation of information for publication. Related responsibilities include obtaining and disseminating information through interview and correspondence, and participating in preparations for conventions and publicity events. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work for technical quality and conformance to departmental policies and procedures.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Confers with departmental officials in planning public information projects using audio-visual broadcast medium.

Originates and writes news articles for release to newspapers, radio, and television broadcasters, periodicals and other publications.

Edits and supervises broadcast of a departmental news magazine program which includes departmental activities.

Coordinates audio-visual presentations for special community, public relations and departmental activities, such as the Dade County Youth Fair, charity drives, promotional ceremonies, and groundbreaking ceremonies.

Takes photographs for departmental publication, news releases and special purposes; prepares slides, overheads, and motion pictures; prepares posters, charts, and other illustrative information; maintains video news file daily and chronologically by broadcast.

Confers with and advises department officials regarding adoption of publicity projects and preparation of information for use in special reports and publications; assembles and condenses industrial news data.

Obtains and disseminates news material through interview and correspondence; participates in preparation for conventions and publicity events; condenses lengthy reports into brief and newsworthy copy suitable for print and broadcast media.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Considerable knowledge of journalistic principles and practices, the techniques of planning, composing and editing publicity material.

Considerable knowledge of English usage and the requirements of press, radio and television broadcasters.

Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of modern video tape production technology.

Considerable knowledge of camera and audio-visual equipment.

Knowledge of the methods used in dark room procedures, still and motion picture production.

Ability to edit and analyze a variety of informational material.

Ability to operate a variety of audio-visual and camera equipment to produce quality work.

Ability to assemble, write, and edit production scripts, video materials and programs.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Skill in the use of audio-visual and photographic equipment.
