| NATURE OF WORK
This is advanced administrative and professional work assisting in medical compliance activities for the Corrections and Rehabilitation Department.
An employee in this class is responsible for performing a variety of administrative duties related to the management of health care services for inmates. Responsibilities include conducting inspections of facilities, reviewing inmate medical records, preparing reports of inspections and findings, providing statistical information concerning inmate health services, and assisting in the development of Requests for Proposals and provider contracts. The incumbent exercises independent judgment in providing effective assistance in managing the delivery of primary and mental health care services to a large population of inmates. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work through personal conferences and written reports for effective assistance in providing required health care programs to the inmate population.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Assists in monitoring the quality of health care services in County detention facilities by conducting inspections of facilities and interacting with inmates. Ensures compliance with requirements of departmental contracts related to primary and mental health care delivery by health care providers. Reviews inmate medical records at all departmental detention facilities. Provides reports concerning inspection findings and statistical reports pertaining to inmate health services provided by correctional health care professionals. Provides statistical information concerning the number and nature of inmate grievances related to health care. Assists in the development of Requests for Proposals and health care provider contracts. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of health services contract administration. Considerable knowledge of local, state and federal regulations pertaining to the provision of health services for incarcerated individuals. Considerable knowledge of medical records used in correctional health services administration. Considerable knowledge of primary and mental health care requirements of a large inmate population. Knowledge of public relations principles and techniques. Ability to provide effective assistance in the management of health care services for incarcerated individuals. Ability to prepare narrative and statistical reports detailing investigative findings concerning the provision of health care services. Ability to understand and interpret complex contracts for the provision of health services for inmates at correctional facilities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with inmates and other public and private officials. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
