| NATURE OF WORK
This is specialized administrative and investigative work for the Administrative Office of the Courts. Employees in this class are responsible for interviewing inmates and defendants to determine indigency and completing required affidavits. Responsibilities include verifying that information provided by inmates and defendants is correct, and conducting financial background investigations using information found in property tax files, Department of Motor Vehicles files, and credit service agencies. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work through personal confernces and written reports for satisfactory performance of assigned duties.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Conducts interviews with inmates and defendants to determine indigency. Conducts financial background investigations by accessing information found in property tax files, Department of Motor Vehicle files, and credit service agencies. Summarizes information for presentation to judges for a final decision on indigency. Prepares statistical and narrative reports concerning cases handled. Maintains contacts with judges, defendants, public defenders and judicial agencies. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge of policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to indigency determination in the Administrative Office of the Courts. Considerable knowledge of the sources and availability of financial information concerning inmates and defendants. Knowledge of criminal operations and related policies and procedures at the Administrative Office of the Courts. Knowledge of records, forms and reports used in the area of assignment. Knowledge of public relations principles and techniques. Ability to conduct interviews with inmates and defendants and obtain required information. Ability to conduct research into the financial condition of inmates and defendants. Ability to prepare reports for presentation to judges concerning findings of indigency investigations.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with inmates, defendants, superiors and a variety of court officials.
