| NATURE OF WORK
This is technical field and office work in a water pollution control program for the Department of Solid Waste Management. Employees in this class are responsible for inspecting and testing solid waste disposal facilities to assure compliance with all issued permits. Responsibilities include collecting water samples, interpreting resulting data, performing inspections of departmental facilities, assisting in the compilation of analytical data, maintaining records, and preparing reports. Duties are performed in accordance with standardized field and laboratory methods and techniques. Supervision may be exercised over subordinates assisting in field operations. Supervision is received from a technical superior who reviews work through personal conferences and written reports for satisfactory completion of assigned responsibilities.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Assists in groundwater quality and/or regulated waste programs by collecting samples, and scheduling sampling events with solid waste disposal facilities, and laboratory. Maintains equipment inventory and supplies, and field equipment. Assures groundwater sampling is conducted in compliance with quality assurance and quality control standards. Supervises subordinates in the deployment of field equipment for testing. Interprets test data and prepares reports. Performs routine or general inspections of solid waste disposal facilities to assure compliance with permits and applicable regulations. Maintains inspection records, photographs and environmental field conditions, and assists in the compilation of analytical data. Responds to the identification of regulated waste, as required. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge of chemistry, biology and physics as they pertain to water pollution control. Considerable knowledge of the apparatus and techniques used in field testing for water pollution. Knowledge of environmental regulations pertaining to solid waste disposal facilities. Knowledge of solid waste disposal facilities of the Department of Solid Waste Management. Knowledge of the records, forms and reports used in a solid waste disposal water pollution control program. Knowledge of State of Florida solid waste permits. Ability to conduct groundwater sampling tests and evaluate laboratory test results with accuracy and good judgement. Ability to inspect solid waste disposal facilities and assure compliance with permits and regulations. Ability to compile data and assist in its' analysis. Ability to prepare detailed technical reports of field investigations. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
