| NATURE OF WORK
This is advanced responsible administrative work assisting in ADA administration for the Office of ADA Coordination.
An employee in this class is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Miami-Dade County activities to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Responsibilities include analyzing and evaluating County programs, policies and procedures, providing assistance to a variety of committees and boards involved with ADA compliance, maintaining contacts with the disability community to identify problems and seek innovative solutions, providing coordination and technical expertise for the Barrier Removal Project to make County facilities accessible to persons with disabilities, and performing a variety of related public information and administrative duties. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgment in providing effective technical and administrative assistance in a Countywide program to ensure compliance with the ADA. General supervision is received from the office director who reviews work through personal conferences and written reports and holds the incumbent responsible for the professional management of assigned responsibilities.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Analyzes County personnel and administrative policies, County programs and activities to determine the effect on persons with disabilities and compliance with ADA regulations.
Analyzes federal, state, and local laws related to individuals with disabilities to determine the impact on Miami-Dade County.
Analyzes architectural criteria, construction standards and plans, and construction sites to determine effect on ADA compliance.
Prepares written reports of findings and proposals for implementation of policies, procedures and architectural standards.
Researches and prepares informational reports, pamphlets, brochures, newsletters and speeches; appears on radio and television programs.
Provides advice, expertise and staff support to the Commission for the Advancement of the Physically Handicapped; prepares agendas, reports, position papers and correspondence; supervises preparation of minutes and keeping of records.
Assists in the coordination and provides technical expertise for the Barrier Removal Project to make County facilities accessible to persons with disabilities; assists in training architects, reviewing plans, inspecting facilities, and researching applicable laws.
Assists in planning and preparation of ADA training programs.
Assists in the production of cable television programs related to ADA programs and issues.
Prepares budget documents and performs administrative functions, as necessary.
Oversees contract with Deaf Services Bureau to provide interpreter services to County departments.
Provides information to municipalities, employers, architects, service providers, persons with disabilities and the public.
Performs related work as required.

Thorough knowledge of various anatomical and physiological conditions and limitations of the differently-abled.
