| NATURE OF WORK
This is technical work in the inspection, testing and minor repair of fire alarm systems for Metro-Dade County agencies. An employee in this class is responsible for performing specialized skilled electrical tasks pertaining to fire alarm systems. Duties include establishing and maintaining fire alarm testing and inspection programs, assuring all fire alarm systems have passed inspection, establishing a training program to assure proper operation of fire alarm systems, monitoring inspection schedules, and initiating minor repairs to fire alarm systems. The incumbent works independently on routine projects and uses specialized tools and testing instruments ofthe electrical trade. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work for technical quality and adherence to established policies and procedures.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Manages fire alarm testing and inspection programs for county agencies; performs manual alarm tests and issues appropriate reports. Establishes and maintains an inspection program to assure that all concerned buildings are in compliance with local, state and national regulations. Establishes, maintains and evaluates a training program for building managers or their designees to assure proper operation of fire alarm systems. Assures all fire alarm systems have passed inspection and have a fire alarm system service record sticker affixed in a conspicuous place on the fire alarm control panel; maintains records of sticker locations. Confirms that inspection schedules are kept and that facilities are notificed of impending inspections. Recommends and initiates minor repairs to fire alarm systems. Performs related work as required.

Considerable knowledge of fire alarm systems and panels. Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and materials of the electrical trade. Considerable knowledge of the principles and theory of electricity. Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade. Knowledge of blueprints and electrical diagrams. Knowledge of local electrical codes effective in the county. Ability to inspect, test and make minor repairs to fire alarm systems. Ability to locate defects in a variety of fire alarm systems. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches and electrical diagrams. Skill in the care and use of standard tools, equipment and testing instruments of the electrical trade. Skill in the diagnosis of electrical malfunctions. Skill in the electrical trade.
