Film/Video Preservationist
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED. One year of experience in archival moving image preservation or film and video experience in a museum, library, media center or cultural facility is required.

NATURE OF WORK

This is technical work is film/video preservation at the Metro-Dade County Wolfson Media Center.

An employee in this class is responsible for performing a variety of duties in support of film/video preservation and archival restoration. Duties include assisting with research and footage requests from interested parties, providing curatorial information to center staff and users of the collection, restoring film and video materials, operating and maintaining film/video equipment, and monitoring the preservation status of the collection. Supervision is received from a professional superior who reviews work through personal observations and conferences for satisfactory completion of assigned responsibilites.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Receives and handles all research and footage requests from film/video makers, educators, scholars and the public.

Maintains working relationships with all users of the collection; provides curatorial information to media center staff and users of the collection.

Operates film/video equipment for moving image preservation and archival restoration of film and video materials including film to tape transfer and video duplication and remastering.

Exercises responsibility for all equipment set-ups for screenings and seminars.

Conducts video recordings of all Wolfson Media Center public access programs and maintains all film/video equipment.

Monitors the preservation status of the collection.

Assists in maintaining the collection's inventory and inspects new additions to the collection.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

Knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of film/video equipment.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of film/video archival preservation, restoration and exhibition.

Knowledge of public relations principles and techniques.

Knowledge of archival reference materials and tools of research.

Knowledge of the operations and resources of the Wolfson Media Center.

Knowledge of the content of the Wolfson Media Center film/video collection.

Ability to operate and maintain a variety of film/video equipment.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, staff of the Wolfson Media Center, and the public.

Ability to provide curatorial information to media center staff and all users of the film/video collection.

Ability to provide effective assistance in the preservation and archival restoration of film and video materials.

Skill in the operation and maintenance of film/video archival equipment.
