Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism or a related field.

NATURE OF WORK

This is technical film/video archival and public relations work for the Wolfson Media Center.

An employee in this class is responsible for performing technical film/video archival work and community outreach and public relations duties for the Wolfson Media Center. Responsibilities include planning seminars, screenings and other events, providing assistance to the public and producers requesting film and video footage, promoting sponsorship of Center events, coordinating an annual awards program, co-editing the curatorial manual for newsfilm archives, and making the community aware of the facilities that the Wolfson Media Center has to offer. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate employees responsible for assisting with various Center activities. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work for achievement of desired goals and objectives.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Plans seminars, benefits, screenings and other Center events; seeks sponsorships from the local community and encourages audiences from schools, universities and other organizations.

Assists the public and producers with requests for film and video footage; answers questions and conducts necessary research, as required.

Promotes community sponsorship through contacts with local businesses to provide assistance with Center activities.

Co-edits the curatorial manual for newsfilm archives; edits press releases and copy for flyers.

Performs outreach activities to make the community aware of the Center, ongoing programs, and research potential of the collection.

Coordinates an annual awards program to acknowledge excellence in film and video productions that are produced in, or are about, the State of Florida.

Informs the media of Center screenings and special events.

Supervises subordinate employees assisting with various Center activities.

Assists in seminar video productions; operates camera, editing system, character generator, and other film/video equipment.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of film/video archival preservation, restoration and exhibition.

Considerable knowledge of public relations principles and techniques.

Knowledge of the operations and resources of the Wolfson Media Center.

Knowledge of the equipment used in the restoration, preservation and maintenance of film/video archives.

Knowledge of archival reference materials and tools of research.

Knowledge of the principles of management and public administration.

Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, superiors and members of the local business community.

Ability to operate equipment used in film/video archival preservation, restoration and exhibition.

Ability to compose and assemble informative public information materials.

Ability to organize and manage seminars and special events related to Wolfson Media Center activities.

Ability to promote use of the facilities of the Wolfson Media Center through direct contact with local business leaders.

Skill in the operation of film/video archival equipment.
