Film/Video Archive Assistant
Minimum Qualifications
High school. One year of clerical, word processing, archival moving image preservation, or film and video experience in a museum, library, media center or cultural facility is required.

NATURE OF WORK

This is technical and clerical film/video archival work in the Media History Center of the Miami-Dade Public Library.

Employees in this class are responsible for assisting in the preservation, repair and transfer of archival film and video materials using specialized equipment. Responsibilities include assisting in maintaining the film/video inventory, assisting in preparations for public screenings, and performing various clerical duties in support of the Center. Supervision is received from a technical and administrative superior who reviews work for satisfactory completion of assigned responsibilities.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Assists in the preservation, organization, repair and transfer of archival materials consisting of 16mm film and VHS videos using specialized equipment.

Maintains film/video inventory; prepares inventories of film and videos received from donors.

Provides assistance in setting up equipment for public screenings and viewings; maintains schedules of public events and private usage of the collection by researchers, filmmakers, educational groups and others.

Provides clerical support in the preparation of funding grants, newsletters or other departmental correspondence.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

Knowledge of the operating characteristics of film/video equipment.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of film/video archival preservation and restoration.

Knowledge of the operations and resources of the Media History Center.

Knowledge of the content of the Media History Center film/video collection.

Ability to operate and maintain a variety of film/video equipment.

Ability to provide effective assistance in the preservation and archival restoration of film and video materials.

Ability to maintain film/video inventories.

Ability to provide clerical support for a variety of departmental activities.
