Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Education or related field. One year of teaching experience is required.

NATURE OF WORK

This is professional and administrative work with supervisory responsibility for the Miami-Dade County Library Department.

An employee in this class is responsible for the coordination of the Library system's SMART Program. Responsibilities include the hiring, training, monitoring and managing of SMART tutors providing tutoring services at library facilities throughout Miami-Dade County; overseeing the registration and assignments of tutors and students and purchasing, ordering and distribution of materials and supplies. The incumbent applies professional principles and practices of education in the performance of assigned duties. Supervision is exercised over a staff of professional educators providing tutoring services at library facilities. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work through personal conferences and written reports for achievement of established goals and objectives.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Serves as coordinator and exercises responsibility for all operational aspects of the Library System's SMART Program, to include hiring, training, monitoring and managing the work of SMART tutors providing tutoring services at Library facilities.

Keeps supervisors informed of pertinent issues relating to the program; designs and implements short and long term program goals and objectives; provides input to administrators and supervisors for program and departmental goal setting; maintains awareness of current educational trends and issues.

Provides development and training to tutors in order to increase their effectiveness in the program; conducts on-going evaluations of the program to update tutor's skills and increase the relevance of the program to school curricula.

Performs and coordinates outreach services to recruit qualified teachers to serve as SMART tutors; promotes awareness of the program to service communities.

Processes new tutors in order to meet program and county requirements; oversees the processing of payments to tutors for services provided.

Makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, and promotion of subordinates. Authorizes leave and overtime; evaluates and rates employee performance.

Performs related work as required.

Considerable knowledge of the theories and principles of education.

Considerable knowledge of methods and practices of teaching.

Knowledge of current educational trends and issues.

Knowledge of techniques in planning and evaluating developmental activities for children.

Knowledge of the conduct and behavior of children.

Knowledge of techniques of appropriate stimulation for the development of children.

Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
