| High school diploma or GED. Two years of experience as a photographer in journalism, ad agency or related field are required. Completion of 60 semester credits in Photography, Journalism or related field may substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis. Must present a portfolio at the time of interview. Must possess a Driver license and use of own vehicle on assignments. Must be able to work days, nights, holidays, and weekends on a varied work schedule. | |

| NATURE OF WORK
This is skilled technical work in photography and related public information work for the Park & Recreation Department. An employee in this class is responsible for providing departmental photographic services and assisting in a public information program. Responsibilities include producing photographic prints and color slides, designing departmental advertisements, brochures and newsletters, producing video tapes for presentations and broadcasts, composing press releases, and developing audiovisual slide presentations. The incumbent exercises some independent judgment in the provision of professional quality photographic services and in assisting in a departmental public information program. Supervision is received from a professional superior who reviews work for effectiveness of photographic services and completion of related assignments.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Provides photographic services to administrative and field employees by documenting and recording departmental activities, including annual and special events, groundbreakings, dedications, competitions and performances, and construction and development of parks and facilities. Produces photographic prints and color slides for departmental brochures, posters, programs, reports, award applications and publicity; produces high-quality color slides for reproduction in various publications. Designs departmental advertisements, brochures, flyers and newsletters; coordinates layouts, graphics, and photo selection; proofreads, corrects, and arranges for distribution; gathers information from field and produces monthly calendar of events. Writes, produces and edits professional quality video tapes for presentations, documentation and broadcast; coordinates production of public service announcements with production company; supervises site selections, talent and shooting schedules. Composes press releases and contacts media for story placement; coordinates publicity plans for special events. Produces audiovisual slide presentations with voice-over narration, music, sound effects and synch tones; presents shows to local civic groups, visitors and gatherings. Maintains library of color slides of departmental facilities and events in chronological and alphabetical order.
Responds to requests for information from the public by telephone and in person. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of photography. Considerable knowledge of camera and film processing equipment. Knowledge of Park & Recreation Department operations, events, schedules, and location of facilities. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of video tape production technology. Knowledge of methods used in producing, editing and assembling photographic material. Knowledge of public relations principles and practices. Ability to operate camera equipment to produce quality photographs. Ability to edit and assemble photographic materials for a variety of departmental purposes. Ability to design advertisements, brochures, flyers, and other publicity materials. Ability to assist in carrying-out a departmental public information program. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing. Skill in the use of photographic equipment. Skill in photography.
