| Minimum Qualifications | |
| Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Horticulture, Revenue Management, Park and Recreation Management, Sports Administration or related field. Three years of experience as a head greenskeeper and/or managing a golf course to include supervisory experience are required. Additional golf course maintenance experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Must obtain a State certificate to Purchase and Use Restricted Pesticides prior to completion of the probationary period. Must possess a Driver license. | |

| NATURE OF WORK
This is supervisory work with administrative responsibility in golf course management for the Metro-Dade Park & Recreation Department. An employee in this class is responsible for supervising and managing the eighteen-hole Key Biscayne Golf Course and related golf course facilities. Responsibilities include planning and implementing programs and special events, directing grounds and landscape maintenance, designing and constructing course complexes, directing operation of a golf pro shop, supervising building maintenance activities, and monitoring daily operations of leased facilities at the golf course. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgment in managing and coordinating golf course events and activities to provide quality services to the public. Supervision is exercised through subordinate supervisors over employees engaged in grounds maintenance or retail sales activities. General supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work through personal conferences, written reports and personal inspections for satisfactory management of the golf course facility.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Supervises through a subordinate supervisor the work of employees engaged in golf course maintenance including mowing, irrigation and fertilization of putting greens, teeing areas, fairways, roughs and surrounding areas. Supervises maintenance programs for facilities, structures, utility systems and equipment used in maintaining and operating the golf course; inspects grounds, facilities and equipment to assure quality of maintenance operations. Prepares and monitors marketing programs, budgets, inventories and advertising for the golf facility. Supervises subordinates engaged in the operation of a golf pro shop including collecting greens fees and assigning starting times, and providing golf supplies and other services to golf patrons. Plans, coordinates and directs special events including professional and amateur golf tournaments and other tour events. Monitors daily operations of leased facilities including restaurant and driving range. Acts in a liaison capacity with security and law enforcement officials during special golf events. Prepares and reviews activity reports and financial statements prepared by subordinates. Makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline and promotion of subordinates; authorizes leave and overtime; evaluates and rates employee performance. Performs related work as required.

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of golf course management. Thorough knowledge of greenskeeping, landscaping and grounds maintenance requirements of an eighteen-hole golf course. Considerable knowledge of supervisory principles and practices. Considerable knowledge of various plant life typical of South Florida golf courses and their related diseases and growth characteristics. Considerable knowledge of the operation of a retail sales facility. Considerable knowledge of public relations principles and techniques. Considerable knowledge of the records, reports and forms required in golf course operations and maintenance. Ability to plan, direct and coordinate daily operations and maintenance activities of an eighteen-hole golf course and related golf facilities. Ability to supervise subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale. Ability to determine necessary landscape maintenance work in accordance with the specialized requirements of a South Florida golf course. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, superiors and golf course patrons. Ability to provide effective assistance in planning and implementing professional golfing tournaments, amateur and special golfing events. Ability to prepare and review records, reports and forms required in golf course operations and maintenance and retail sales activities.
