Zoo Patron Services Manager
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing or a related field. Three years of professional experience in the zoo or attractions industry, with a concentration in food service catering, revenue forecasting, contract administration or patron service functions are required. Additional experience may substitute for required education on a year-for-year basis.

NATURE OF WORK

This is advanced administrative and supervisory work managing patron services for a large metropolitan zoo.

An employee in this class is responsible for administering and supervising zoo admissions, security functions, and concessionaires at Metrozoo. Responsibilities include projection, reporting, and analysis of revenue and patron attendance, monitoring contract concessionaires, coordinating all group events at the zoo, coordinating traffic and crowd control for special events, assuring the safety and security of zoo patrons while on the premises, and providing overall supervision of zoo operations on weekends and holidays. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgment in providing a variety of services to zoo visitors while in attendance at Metrozoo. Supervision is exercised over a staff of subordinate employees engaged in providing services to zoo patrons or serving in a support capacity. General supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work for efficient and effective provision of patron services to the visiting public.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Prepares and maintains statistical reports and information pertaining to attendance, revenue, gross sales of concessionaires, commissions and guarantees due, trends in patron attendance records, and other records concerning financial operations at Metrozoo.

Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of subordinate admissions and security employees; establishes and revises work schedules; determines specific functions for security posts and other security operations.

Coordinates security activities with local law enforcement agencies and concessionaires operating at Metrozoo; assists law enforcement agencies in the conduct of investigations as necessary.

Negotiates group bookings for organizations planning events at the zoo such as picnics, evening parties and meetings; offers discount incentives; coordinates events to achieve maximum return of revenue.

Monitors concessionaires on contract with the zoo, such as food and beverage vendors, gift shops and amusement rides, to assure that Metrozoo receives correct commission amounts; monitors outside contractors on premises during special events such as concerts.

Supervises Metrozoo operations on weekends and holidays.

Makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, and promotion of subordinates; authorizes leave and overtime; evaluates and rates employee performance.

Performs related work as required.

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of managing a variety of public-service revenue-producing retail operations.

Thorough knowledge of the geographical layout, organization, and operations of Metrozoo.

Considerable knowledge of security practices and procedures.

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of business and public administration.

Knowledge of the principles of accounting.

Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.

Ability to manage a variety of patron services at a large metropolitan zoo to meet the needs of zoo visitors.

Ability to plan and coordinate patron services at Metrozoo for special events and organizations using Metrozoo.

Ability to supervise subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, superiors, vendors, and the public.

Ability to analyze and resolve patron services operational problems.
