| Miami-Dade County is looking for a self-motivated, detail-oriented person to assist with the implementation of a comprehensive international trade grant writing program out of the county’s Capitol Hill office. The employee will coordinate grant initiatives and help maximize grant funding opportunities for the Jay Malina International Trade Consortium (ITC) which is responsible for the promotion of trade between Miami-Dade and world regions, as well as protocol, and a comprehensive Sister Cities program. Incumbent will monitor federal, state, and private grant programs and identify suitable funds related to the ITC’s mission; prepare and submit grant applications to federal, state, and private granting organizations; assess and advise on the eligibility and availability of grant funds for international trade, protocol, and Sister Cities. Ideal candidate will possess superior communication and organizational skills, superior research skills, and excellent writing/editing abilities and knowledge/experience with state, federal, and private grant requirements and procedures. Salary commensurate with experience – up to $30 an hour. Bachelor's degree. Three years of professional experience in the development of public and/or private sector grant funding to include experience in the preparation of grant applications are required. Experience as a local or state legislative aide, congressional aide, governmental affairs liaison, intergovernmental affairs coordinator or staff assistant may substitute for one year of the required experience. | NATURE OF WORK
This is advanced professional work in the coordination of grant initiatives for Office of International Trade Consortium.
An employee in this class is responsible for performing various duties to coordinate grant initiatives and maximize grant funding opportunities for the Office of International Trade Consortium. Responsibilities include monitoring federal, state, and private grant in aid programs and identifying those suitable funds related to the Office of International Trade Consortium and its program; preparing and submitting grant applications to federal, state, and private granting organizations; assessing and advising the Executive Director, Office of International Consortium on the eligibility and availability of grant funds for international trade, protocol, and Sister Cities related projects. The incumbent exercises independence of action and professional judgment in providing expert advice and technical assistance to the Executive Director, Office of International Trade Consortium. Supervision is received from the Executive Director who reviews work through reports and personal conferences for achievement of desired goals and objectives.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Keeps informed on a wide range of grant opportunities and identifies potential state, federal, and private funding sources.
Tracks specific legislative issues as needed.
Determines grant requirements and performs initial grant assessment prior to submission.
Coordinates with Intergovernmental Affairs Office, County Manager, and County Commission.
Develops communication and rapport with state, federal, and private officials involved in the selection of grantees and the allocation of grant funds.
Assists in documenting compliance with any maintenance of effort or matching requirements. Maintains grants database.
Prepares grant fiscal impact and feasibility statements.
Monitors progress and prepares grant status reports. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
Thorough knowledge of sources of grant funding.
Thorough knowledge of general state, federal, and private grant requirements and procedures.
Knowledge of state and federal legislative process.
Knowledge of computers, database and applications, and the Internet.
Ability to keep informed on changes and new developments in grant funding and applicable requirements and procedures.
Ability to deal effectively with representatives of local, state, federal and private agencies.
Ability to provide technical assistance in the preparation of grant applications and proposals.
Ability to facilitate and coordinate grant initiatives.
