From gathering historic housing data, to projecting land use for the next 20 years, are all part of the range of responsibilities of Miami-Dade County's planners.
The Research Division provides us with statistics, analysis and prepared reports about housing, population and geographic information Miami-Dade at a Glance . Estimates and projections of population and employment are done based on current Census data and other data sources. Current land uses and the future capacity for development are maintained in a Geographic Information system.
Miami-Dade County has a large unincorporated area, along with 36 municipalities. Requests from cities to annex adjacent areas and requests to create new municipalities are reviewed by planning staff.
Development demands on facility capacity, analyses of existing and forecast levels of service are monitored for service concurrency status.
How development or conservation of land and natural resources will occur during the next ten to twenty years are expressed in the Comprehensive Development Master Plan (CDMP).
Community Planning prepares area planning reports for specific areas of unincorporated Miami-Dade County that address urban design and the implementation of future development strategies; conducts environmental assessments and reviews related to programs involving federal funding; studies all applications for changes to municipal boundaries; provides recommendations for the sale of surplus County lands; and administers support to the County's Planning Advisory Board.
