In the spirit of the holiday season, the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) will on Thursday, December 29, 2016, host an employee appreciation event titled ‘Bring Your Lunch and Jazz,’ in the Cafetorium of the MDPD Headquarters in Doral.
Bring Your Lunch and Jazz will run from eleven o’clock until 2:00 PM. It will feature the Jazz Boot Camp Ensemble, which is comprised of middle-school, high-school and college-aged musicians who participate in the Jazz Encounters Community Coalition (JECC).
The Jazz Encounters Community Coalition is one of several community oriented cultural events organized and promoted by WDNA 88.9 FM, a public radio station which is partially funded by Miami-Dade County government. The JECC facilitates young musicians from across South Florida honing their talents through encounters with seasoned professionals, in musical boot camps, as well as in concert settings.
MDPD has encouraged officers involved in the recently launched Youth Outreach Unit (YOU) to bring young people they are mentoring to the December 29 event. The mentees will have the opportunity to meet and be inspired by the young musicians.
