The Director will be sworn into office by Bertila Soto, Chief Judge of the 11th Judicial District, in the presence of the community with his family, fellow officers, and past Directors.  On January 28, 2016, Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez announced his selection of then Deputy Director Juan J. Perez to be the Director of MDPD.  The Board of County Commissioners unanimously accepted the Mayor's selection on February 2, 2016.  "I look forward to being in attendance as Director Juan J. Perez is formally invested as head of the Miami-Dade Police Department.  I am confident that Director Perez' vision and passion will guide the MDPD as it continues an intensive recruitment and succession effort, expands upon its solid community policing practices, and infuses cutting edge technology into our world class police force," said Mayor Gimenez.
