Miami-Dade County, Crime Stoppers, The Children's Trust, and United Way of Miami-Dade Launch "Crime Stoppers Kids"

Now you can do something to make sure people who commit violent acts against children get caught

In recognition of National Gun Violence Awareness day, and in the wake of a string of shootings that claimed the lives of children, Miami-Dade County government, Crime Stoppers Miami-Dade, The Children’s Trust and United Way are joining together on Thursday, June 2nd at 3:00 p.m. at the Miami-Dade County Police Headquarters at 9105 NW 25 Street in Doral to launch “Crime Stoppers Kids.”

The goal of the initiative is to have an easily accessible vehicle for every resident to get involved in the fight against gun violence that’s killing our children. Crime Stoppers Kids will allow people throughout South Florida to donate to a fund specifically designated to raise reward money to encourage tips leading to the arrest of anyone who commits a violent crime against a child.

The Crime Stoppers Kids campaign will launch with a television PSA that is being supported by most of the markets English and Spanish Language television stations and will soon include radio, print and outdoor opportunities as well as Creole PSA’s.

“Not only are we giving everyone in the community the opportunity to help catch those guilty of committing heinous crimes against our children, we also are sending a strong signal to all that this level of violence will not be tolerated in our neighborhoods,” said James R. Haj, President and CEO of The Children’s Trust.

“The success of Crime Stoppers in our community has been tremendous. We know for a fact that the larger the reward, the faster quality tips come in and the quicker we catch the bad guys. Crime Stoppers Kids is an opportunity to take that exact same model and focus it on crimes against innocent children and youth,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez.

Crime Stoppers Kids is the latest tool in the Miami-Dade Police Department’s arsenal to help combat violence against children.

“The Miami-Dade Police Department is dedicated to the prevention of violence affecting our community’s youth. Collaborating with our partners for the Crime Stoppers Kids initiative is just one of many ways that we are working towards that goal.” said Miami-Dade Police Department, Director Juan Perez.

Donations will be accepted through crimestopperskids.org and the United Way of Miami Dade will serve as the fiscal sponsor.

“Preventing crimes against children is, obviously, the number one goal. But when a child is shot or killed, all of us at United Way believe it’s imperative to use every tool at our disposal to make sure the perpetrator is caught and brought to justice as swiftly as possible. That’s what Crime Stoppers Kids is intended to do and why we are pleased to join this effort,” said Harve A. Mogul, President and CEO of United Way of Miami-Dade.
