Miami-Dade Police Department and Citizens' Crime Watch of Miami-Dade County partner with Neighbors by Ring.

Collaboration aims to enhance MDPD’s Real Time Crime Center and community crime prevention efforts.

The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) is proud to announce this exciting public/private partnership in our continued efforts to leverage advanced technology to fight crime.  By joining the Ring's Neighbors network, MDPD seeks to provide our community with local crime and safety information and enhance the capabilities of its Real Time Crime Center, which combines intelligence resources, data, and technology with policing strategies. The Neighbors app utilizes innovative technology to reduce crime in neighborhoods, already has millions of users, and has been instrumental in catching package thieves and preventing burglaries. The use of these technologies combined with community outreach and education are a powerful tool for both preventing and solving crime. In addition, Ring will be donating 200 video doorbell devices to Citizens' Crime Watch of Miami-Dade County (CCW) that will be distributed in collaboration with the MDPD, with a primary focus on crime prevention.

Citizens’ Crime Watch of Miami-Dade County, a non-profit county-wide crime prevention program,  teaches members techniques to reduce the risk of being victimized at home, in their vehicles and in public places. CCW also trains members the importance of recognizing suspicious activities; evaluate them; and then how to properly report them. By participating in this partnership, CCW gains another means to help its “Crime Watchers” collaborate with neighbors and police to reduce crime and victimization.

“The Miami-Dade Police Department continues to embrace the use of technology to fight crime and connect with our community.”  said Miami-Dade Police Director Juan J. Perez. “This innovative partnership will further enhance our Real Time Crime Center’s capabilities but most importantly, further empower our community to make a difference in our combined responsibility to keep Miami-Dade safe ”

Jamie Siminoff, Chief Inventor and Founder of Ring, said: “We’re excited to have the Miami-Dade Police Department join Neighbors to keep their community up-to-date on local crime and safety information. Over the past few years we have learned that, when neighbors, the Ring team and law enforcement all work together, we can create safer communities. Neighbors is meant to facilitate real-time communication between these groups, while maintaining neighbor privacy first and foremost. By bringing security to every neighbor with the free Neighbors app, the Miami-Dade community can stay on top of crime and safety alerts as they happen.”

Residents wishing to participate, can download the free Neighbors app on iOS or Android, join your neighborhood, and use the app to: monitor neighborhood activity; share crime and safety-related videos, photos and text-based posts; and receive real-time safety alerts from your neighbors, local law enforcement and the Ring team. Working closer with your community can make your neighborhood safer.
