Seeking Information on a Fatal Hit-and-Run

 

The Miami-Dade Police Department, Traffic Homicide Unit, is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a bicyclist.

According to investigators, 18 year-old Derek Betancourt was struck and killed by 2015-2018 Mercedes Benz on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at approximately 7:57 p.m., while riding his bicycle in the area of 19600 block of NW 47th avenue. After striking the victim, the driver continued north on NW 47th avenue, not stopping to render aid or to call 911. Detectives believe the vehicle will have extensive front end damage consistent with the crash.

Traffic Homicide detectives will be at the intersection of NW 199 Street and NW 47th avenue handing out flyers, seeking additional information on this case.
