It is with deep regret that Director J.D. Patterson announces the passing of Thelma Harris, the first African-American female officer employed by the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD). Thelma Harris began her service with the MDPD in June 1962, and retired in 1982. During her 20-years with the Department she worked various assignments including community service and juvenile investigations. Please keep the Harris family in your thoughts as they endure this most difficult time. Media is welcome to attend.
