Rapid Deployment Force Activated

Miami-Dade Police Department Sending Assistance to Monroe County

As Miami-Dade County continues to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, authorities in Monroe County tirelessly continue their recovery efforts.  After meeting with Sheriff Ramsey, Director Juan Perez has vowed to assist his agency until things normalize. Therefore, he has activated the Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) to assist in patrolling the streets of the Upper Keys, giving Monroe County Deputies much needed temporary relief.  "We bleed blue and stand to help anywhere," said Director Perez.

The RDF program is coordinated by the MDPD Special Patrol Bureau. RDF members receive extensive training and are used in a variety of missions, to include terrorism and counter-terrorism response operations, Weapons of Mass Destruction and Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear and Explosives response operations, natural and man-made disasters, post-blast Explosive Ordnance Disposal support, civil disturbances, protests, riots, and humanitarian aid missions.

RDF members will report at 3:00 p.m. for a briefing to stage for deployment.

Media is welcome to attend and must arrive at MDPD HQ by 2:30 p.m.
