The Miami-Dade Police Department Hammocks District joins Wal-Mart stores for the annual Christmas "Shop with a Cop" program. This program was created to provide a positive relationship between police officers and the children of the community. The program also provides an opportunity for children to shop for gifts for the holidays.

Fifteen students will be selected from area district elementary and middle schools by the school administration. The selection process will be based on academics, highest achievers and knowledge of the child's family needs by school personnel. Once selected the students and parents will be notified in advance and the child will receive a limited amount of money provided by a Wal-Mart grant to be utilized inside the noted Wal-Mart store location on the day of the event.
