On March 7, 2019, the Miami-Dade Police Department became aware of a video circulating on social media depicting an incident that occurred on March 5 2019. The department did not wait for a formal complaint to be filed and took immediate action. Please refer to the below statement issued by Director Juan J. Perez yesterday evening: “I find the actions depicted on the video deeply troubling and in no way reflective of our core values of integrity, respect, service, and fairness. This is why last week, upon becoming aware of the video posted on social media, an immediate inquiry was initiated which resulted in the involved officer being relieved of duty and of his role as a field training officer. An investigation into the entire incident is currently ongoing and upon its conclusion, I will hold those that violated any of our policies and/or procedures accountable for their actions or lack thereof.” Juan J. Perez, Director Miami-Dade Police Department Update #1: Body Worn Camera footage of the incident may be obtained from the FTP site under 2019/March/Video/PD190305081145. Update #2: As a result of the investigation by South District detectives into the original call for service, Frank Tumm has been arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.
