(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- 

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating an incident that resulted in a male to be struck and killed by a vehicle on SR-112.  According to investigators, Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD), Robbery Intervention Detail (RID) observed a robbery in progress.  Subsequently, the dispatcher transmitted over the radio a robbery that had just occurred in the area of N.W. 49 Street & N.W. 28 Avenue.  The vehicle and subject description given was the same of the one detectives were following.  They attempted to stop the vehicle but the subject refused and continued driving westbound on SR-112.  He then stopped the vehicle and fled on foot and attempted to cross SR-112 eastbound traffic when he was struck by a taxi cab.  Fire Rescue personnel responded and the subject was pronounced deceased on the scene.  The victim of the robbery and the taxi cab driver did not sustain any injuries.  MDPD, Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the traffic fatality while FDLE continues to investigate the police activity and/or actions preceding the accident.  This is part of the agreement between FDLE and MDPD as noted in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
