Homicide


(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- 

Detectives from the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Homicide Bureau are currently searching for Joe Louis Padgett. There is a warrant for Padgett’s arrest for the killing of his estranged wife, Katrina Padgett.

Detectives say the victim was at the Southwest Miami-Dade home of her mother Sophia Cheeks, where she was confronted by her estranged husband. There was an argument and Joe Louis Padgett produced firearm began shooting at both women. Katrina Padgett was hit several times but her mother, Sophia Cheeks, was not.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel responded and pronounced Katrina Padgett deceased.

Detectives say Joe Louis Padgett, who fled the scene prior to police arrival, should be considered armed and dangerous.
