Former Miami-Dade Water and Sewer employee charged with petit theft |

The Miami-Dade Police Department Professional Compliance Bureau, Public Corruption Section, along with the Miami-Dade County State Attorney’s Office announces the filing of petit theft charges against Mr. Jorge Zayas. Mr. Zayas, a Service Technician 2, was employed with the Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department for 22 years. The investigation stemmed from information received by the Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department. The investigation exposed that Mr. Zayas was stealing scrap metal and other similar items for the purpose of recycling them for his personal financial gain during regular working hours. This past September, as the investigation was underway, Mr. Zayas resigned from the Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department. This morning, Mr. Jorge Zayas appeared before the court and was charged by information with one count of petit theft.
