(Miami-Dade County, FL) --

The Miami-Dade Police Department, Missing Persons Unit is investigating a possible child abduction that occurred while stealing a vehicle.

According to investigators, the reporter, Antoinette Rowan, made contact with an individual to conduct a transaction involving a vehicle.  She had communicated with the subject on social media and made arrangements for him to meet her at her residence.  They then agreed for her to pick up the subject at his residence.  Once she arrived, the subject and a female entered the vehicle and proceeded to a Walmart located in southwest Miami-Dade.  The victim reported, they proceeded to a gas station located at 22025 SW 112 Avenue.  The victim entered the gas station and when she returned, the vehicle was gone with her three-year-old child inside.

The Miami-Dade Police Department immediately launched an extensive search for the toddler utilizing an array of resources to include the Aviation Unit.  Investigators later learned that the child was home with Ms. Rowan's daughter.  It is unclear how the toddler was brought to the residence.  As investigators continued to follow all possible leads, Ms. Rowan confessed to filing a false police report.  She stated that the toddler was never inside the vehicle.  She admitted that she filed the false police report indicating that her three-year-old child had been abducted in hopes that the police would locate her vehicle faster.  Rowan was charged with Filing A False Report To Police.

The vehicle remains missing.

Update #1: As investigators continued to follow all leads, they located the stolen vehicle which was being driven by Antonio Monzon. The subject was arrested without incident and charged with Grand Theft Auto. Monzon was booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
